Fashion Portraits Cumbria – see the light !

As a Wedding Photographer in Cumbria it is important to keep my techniques fresh but more importantly fast, Weddings allow very little time for complex lighting set ups so I like to experiment when I can in order to give the best service to Brides and Grooms in very small time slots.

Last weekend I was honoured to welcome Trudy and Brian, a lovely couple form Manchester to the Lake District for their Pre-Wedding shoot, we were blessed with our famed ‘Liquid Sunshine’ all morning but as always it is what you make of it and we had a great time – I will blog their shoot very soon.

In the meantime here is what we did after we had waved goodbye to Trudy and Brian, Rachel is my Fiancee and also my favourite subject to photograph, she often accompanies me on shoots and is dying to attend a Wedding in a ‘chief helper’ capacity, although I am sure when I upgrade my kit she will inherit one of my old cameras to play with !

So, I could see Rachel was dying to have some pictures taken and I wanted to practice some ideas I have been having that I want to incorporate into my Wedding and Children’s shoots. We were already out on location so in the perfect, non-controlled environment to try out what I had been thinking about.

Below in the first two images you will see the kind of image I normally produce, followed then by the images I had in mind.

In the first two images I photographed Rachel in the same way I would normally photograph a portrait session, I then did a quick set up with the lights, luckily I got the desired effect straight off and we spent the next 10 minutes with only very minor adjustments. There will be a few things I will tweak for next time I shoot like this but feel very happy that what I had been thinking about worked well.

Don’t get me wrong there is nothing new in this technique and it has been practiced very successfully by a few well known Wedding and Portrait photographers, I like to push my own abilities though and constant learning and development keeps me fresh, it keeps me grounded and it also makes me smile when I nail something based on theory !

So, if you would like to talk about your Wedding, perhaps a shoot for yourself or maybe for the kids – feel free to drop me an email, or simply use the ‘contact’ form above and I will be in touch for a no obligation chat.
