A Lake District Wedding in the truly gorgeous St. Catherine’s Church at Boot, near Eskdale.
Ivan and Emily have been friends for years and we share alot of mutual friends though various activities the main ones being Mountain Biking and Beer. So when I was asked to photograph their Wedding I was of course delighted although I was also to be a guest, now I know you can’t really do both so as a Wedding is the biggest day of their lives I had to be 130% Wedding photographer !
My work started the night before by attending the rehearsal at St. Catherine’s such a beautiful church steeped in history, access was down a Bridleway and a couple of times I was cursing my Sat Nav as I was sure it was wrong but sure enough I rounded the corner to see the church, by the river Esk in the early evening sun, I smiled – it was very special.
Emily, Ivan and family arrived and I got introduced to the Vicar and found out the do’s and don’ts for her service, all was good and the rehearsal began. It was great to catch up with Justin the best man, we went to school together so it really was fantastic to see him after so long and meet his wife again and their lovely son who has recently mastered the art of walking !
Rehearsal done it was time to check into the campsite up the road, yes the Groom was to stay on a campsite, with his mates the night before his Wedding – again great to catch up with everyone and crack a can before taking a wander down to the local to meet up with some other guests and family, I had already eaten but the food looked great and the Becks certainly tasted good ! Back to camp, another quick can with the boys and off to bed, damn those midgies !
So, bright and early everyone was up and duties divvied up, it was then off to the Bridge Inn to sort out the Helium Ballons and other decorations for the reception, everything in place I checked into the hotel as I would be spending night two at The Bridge Inn, Santon Bridge.
While there, we had a recce of Wasdale for the Bride and Groom photos, Britains Best view, well, it would have been rude not to !
So, after checking in I went to see Emily and the girls for some shots of the hair, make up and general fun and laughter of a Brides Wedding morning, good fun and massive respect to Cathy for nailing Emily’s hair, well not nailing it but styling it brilliantly even though she is not a hairdresser, great work !
Woohoo, time was getting on so I headed off to the church, parked neatly and wandered back toward the pub to meet the boys and guests. Best man was resplendent in his full military dress uniform and beret, Ivan was looking, well looking bloody brilliant in his suit and outside the pub all had their sunglasses on, sunglasses on a Wedding day means that it is not raining so everybody happy !
It was a lovely service, as is every Wedding, its so nice to see two people that adore each other so much – what a job I have, its ace !
We carried out some group shots outside the church and then it was off upto Wasdale, armed with my trusty assistant Matt, well he didn’t know he was going to be my trusty assistant but as he is also a mate of myself and of Ivan and Emily he was the man for the lighting rig. I was let through by the Wedding Rolls Royce and I led the journey up through the valley to Wasdale, WOW, just WOW – what a place, truly beautiful and unspoilt.
Mindful of time we got back to The Bridge Inn and were quickly seated for a very gorgeous meal and some very emotional speeches, speeches that were from the heart and I am sure there was not a dry eye in the house.
Onto the evening entertainment, started by a wonderful Ceilidh Band called Feonix, although I can’t seem to find a website for them they got a good crowd on the dance floor and had people tangling themselves in all sorts of knots in no time ! While the band were doing their stuff the DJ of Good Vibrations Disco was setting up – oh my, what a fella and it seems is the MC of The Worlds Biggest Lier competition also held at the Bridge Inn – Yep he rocked, one of the best Wedding DJ’s I have seen with genuine West Cumbria craic, what a guy !
So, I guess that is a rough summary of Emily and Ivan’s Wedding day, hopefully the images will speak for themselves……….
If you are a couple planning on getting married don’t forget to ask your photographer if you can see some full weddings, full weddings from start to finish, not just the images they choose to show you !
Make sure you see what a Bride and Groom will see, make sure they carry back up equipment, also ask if they are insured to carry out the task as most Wedding Insurance policies will require your photographer to be insured for public liability and professional indemnity.
Please feel free to get in touch if I can be of any assistance, I know and trust many Wedding suppliers and the vast majority I have worked with are awesome and share the same principles as myself, I also know and network with quite a few Wedding photographers both in my immediate area also national and international so if I don’t have a date free maybe someone within the trusted network will, so between us you will have your perfect day………….
